What your kundli contains

Lagna (Ascendant) · Rising sign

The sign rising on the eastern horizon at your birth moment. It sets the layout of all twelve houses, which is why an accurate birth time matters so much.

Rashi (Moon sign) · Chandra rashi

Where the Moon sat at birth. In Vedic astrology this carries far more weight than the Sun sign, and most predictive work starts here.

Nakshatra · Birth star

One of 27 lunar mansions, each with four padas. Your nakshatra drives dasha calculation and is used in matching.

Graha positions · Planets

Sign, degree and house for each of the nine grahas, including whether a planet is retrograde or combust.

Bhava (houses) · 12 houses

The twelve life areas — self, wealth, siblings, home, children, health, marriage, and so on — and which planets occupy or aspect each.

Vimshottari Dasha · Planetary periods

The 120-year cycle of mahadashas and antardashas that maps which planet governs which stretch of your life. This is what timing questions are actually answered from.

Why birth time matters

The lagna shifts about every two hours, and it anchors all twelve houses. A birth time that is off by a couple of hours can move every house placement in the chart. If you know your time from a birth certificate or hospital record, use it. If you only know roughly, give the range — a chart built on an honest approximation, clearly labelled, is far more useful than a precise-looking one built on a guess. JyotiNow will tell you which parts of your reading are affected rather than quietly filling in the blanks.

How the chart is calculated

Positions are computed with Swiss Ephemeris, the astronomical library professional Jyotish software relies on, using the Lahiri ayanamsa for sidereal (Vedic) positions. That means your planetary degrees are real astronomy for your exact place and moment of birth, not a rounded lookup. North Indian and South Indian charts differ only in how the diagram is drawn — the underlying data is the same.

What is a janam kundali?

A janam kundali (birth chart or janam patrika) is a map of the sky at the exact moment and place you were born. It records the lagna, the Moon's nakshatra, the positions of the nine grahas across the twelve houses, and the Vimshottari dasha sequence that follows from the Moon's position. Everything else in Vedic astrology is read from this chart.

Can I make a kundli by date of birth only, without birth time?

Partly. Your date and place are enough to place most planets by sign and to determine the Moon sign in most cases. But the lagna changes roughly every two hours, so without a birth time the twelve houses cannot be fixed — and house-based readings, including the ascendant itself, become guesswork. JyotiNow tells you plainly when your birth time is missing or approximate rather than presenting an estimate as fact.

Is this kundli free?

Yes. Generating your kundli is free and needs no payment details. Your chart is computed with Swiss Ephemeris — the same astronomical data professional Jyotish software uses — not looked up from a table of approximations.

Which kundli system does JyotiNow use — North or South Indian?

The underlying calculation is identical either way; only the diagram differs. JyotiNow computes sidereal (Vedic) positions using the Lahiri ayanamsa, which is the standard across Indian astrology, and presents the chart data alongside a plain-language reading rather than expecting you to interpret a square or circular diagram yourself.

What can I actually do with my kundli?

The chart itself is a reference; the value is in the questions you ask of it. Common ones are timing questions — when a marriage or job change is supported, what the current dasha is bringing — and understanding recurring patterns. You can ask Guruji about your own chart in plain language once it is generated.
